At some point, most of us have solemnly decide to follow a super healthy lifestyle. All of it runs smoothly until those hunger pangs start hitting us, and then poof! To hell with that diet! Doesn’t this feel extremely familiar? Well there might be a reason for that nasty hunger which derails us from our path almost every time! Let us look at five of the most common reasons for that:
- Lack of sleep: A lack of sleep is linked to overeating, especially the overconsumption of junk food which can lead to weight gain. Two hormones that help regulate hunger, ghrelin and leptin are affected by sleep: Ghrelin stimulates appetite, while leptin decreases it.
- Confusion with thirst: Your brain sometimes confuses thirst with hunger. Before you take something to eat, try having a glass of water instead.
- Comfort eating: How was your day? Not too good? It does not take long until you feel that old familiar feeling of hunger? Well, think again before you grab that piece of chocolate or sit with that tub of ice-cream. Find something else to do when you are feeling down or bored.
- Lack of nutrition: Sometimes when you are trying to adapt a new lifestyle, you don’t always know how to eat properly. Your body might be craving some important nutrients that you’re lacking.
- Skipping breakfast: Do you think you are saving calories by skipping breakfast? Think again. By skipping breakfast you are likely to feel hungry through the day and also over-eat. Always eat something within an hour or waking up, to keep your body optimized and avoid those unnecessary, repeated hunger pangs throughout the day!
